Twyla Tharp

Exhibition Brochure

Twyla Tharp Brochure cover

This typographic brochure, for an Exhibition on Twyla Tharp, sees the words dancing
across the pages, flowing with the content and mimicking the themes. The wordmark,
a hand lettering of her name, carries through the idea of movement with its abstract
representation of a ballerina on point.

Case Study

Project Overview

The purpose of this project was to choose a designer/artist and create a brochure for an exhibition featuring them. Having read Tharp’s book, “The Creative Habit”, I connected with her thoughts and perspectives. I could draw similarities between her approaches and discipline and my own (through the world of dance). Accordingly, I was compelled to do this exhibition on Tharp and her work.

Approach

I approached the copy as I would a dance. Choreographed the words so they flowed on the page and connected with what she was talking about. I drew from numerous articles and interviews and weaved together the story I thought important to be told on the pages.

My goal was to make the copy dance across the pages. It should bring across the same message as what is written for those just scanning.
