Saul Bass Exhibition poster

Applied Arts Student Awards — Nominated

The career of American designer filmmaker Saul Bass  who transformed the movie title sequence into an art form from 1954 onwards — is epitomized here by displaying images from his best-known work. Using Bass-style lettering, graphics, and layout, this poster invites the admirer to come and celebrate his many movie-industry achievements.

Case Study

Project Overview

The objective was to create an exhibition poster that featured a quote reflective of a specific design movement.

Approach

Intrigued by the way Saul Bass plays with type and imagery in his title sequences, I chose to feature his work. In an attempt to create a minimalist feel I decided to choose three of his most famous works, Love in the Afternoon, The Man with the Golden Arm and It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, for the main focus of this piece. Within the bowl itself are more of his iconic pieces.
